SPECIAL EDITION Thursday, October 29, 2020 RESUMPTION OF PUBLIC MASS
The Church of the Little Flower is open for Sunday and weekday Masses.
The seriousness of this pandemic, however, dictates that we follow strict guidelines and important safety measures. Please carefully read the guidelines HERE.
Masks are required to be worn at all times when in church. Please arrive early as seating is first come, first served.
Dispensation from the Sunday and Holy Day obligation remains in effect. Many options are available for participating in Mass when we cannot be present at the liturgy. View the Archdiocese of Washington list of live-streamed (and recorded) Masses and Prayers.
PASTORAL REFLECTION Sister Rosemaron Rynn, IHM November is a time of remembrance. Today we begin with the Solemnity of All Saints, a day that the Church honors all of God's saints, even those who have not been canonized by the Church. It is a family day of celebration—we celebrate the memory of those family members now sharing eternal happiness in the presence of God. We rejoice that they have reached their eternal goal and ask their prayers on our behalf so that we, too, may join them in heaven and praise God through all eternity.

FOR THE SICK- Please pray for the sick members of our parish and for all who are in need. Keep these and all the intentions of our parish in your prayers. Each year we have the opportunity to honor all our loved ones who have died at every Mass in November. Any names that you submit via this form will be printed and placed on the altar and remembered during these Masses.
STEWARDSHIP CORNER Poor Box Donations – Through the end of 2020, Little Flower will be donating parishioner Poor Box contributions to Catholic student centers at three local universities. The centers' critical missions are to serve the spiritual needs of Catholic students in secular academic and living environments, most of whom are away from their Catholic families and parishes where they had spiritual support. Contributions during November and December will go to the George Washington University's Newman Catholic Center. "To live is to change, and to be perfect is to have changed often." (Blessed John Henry Newman was considered the 19th-century's most important English-speaking Catholic theologian)
Sunday is the Solemnity of All Saints, a day when we commemorate all those human heroes who, through great trials – in some cases even martyrdom – strived to dedicate their lives to God. They are a stunning reminder that each one of us is called to sanctity. Tuesday – St. Martin de Porres (d. 1639), the illegitimate son of a Spanish nobleman and a Panamanian freed woman, who became a lay brother in the Dominican order. "He was tireless in his efforts to reform the criminal…For the poor he would provide food, clothing and medicine." (Pope John XXIII) St. Martin was a good friend of another Dominican, St. Rose of Lima, and is considered the patron saint of social justice. Opportunities abound for those wanting to become involved in social justice causes. Click HERE for more information. Wednesday - St. Charles Borromeo (d. 1584), who earned doctorates in canon and civil law by the time he was 21 and was very influential during the Council of Trent. Later, as Archbishop of Milan, he founded seminaries and schools and, when most authorities fled Milan, he stayed to minister to the sick and feed the poor during a time of plague and famine. Not related to his virtues, but of historical interest, his mother was a Medici and his uncle became Pope Pius IV.
"We are called to acknowledge how beautiful, true and good it is to start a family, to be a family today…We are called to make known God's magnificent plan for the family…as we accompany them admidst so many difficulties." (Pope Francis, Feb. 20, 2014)
