Msgr Vaghi's Reflection on the Most Holy Trinity
PASTORAL REFLECTION Deacon Jim Shanahan
I pray that the Catholic Church takes the lead here. The church does not have a social teaching; the church is social teaching. Like St Paul's hope and dreams for Corinth…the church should model for the U.S. the vibrant internal life of a community united by Jesus Christ.
PARISH INFORMATION
If you visit the church, please maintain a safe distance from other visitors. No more than 10 people in the church at any one time. Many options are available for participating in Mass when we cannot be present at the liturgy. View the Archdiocese of Washington list of live-streamed (and recorded) Masses and Prayers.
Saints as Model Stewards May the saints whom we commemorate next week inspire us to use our own God-given talents and opportunities as He would have us do. Tuesday - St. Ephrem (d. 373), Deacon and Doctor of the Church, nicknamed "the Harp of the Holy Spirit" for his poetic sermons and beautiful hymns. He was a prolific writer of apologetics, theology and commentaries on Scripture. Ephrem also used songs of heretical groups but substituted Christian lyrics. He distributed to the poor donations from the wealthy during a famine. Thursday - St. Barnabas (d. 60 A.D.?) who, although not one of the original apostles, was called an "apostle" by early Christians. His Hebrew name was Joseph, but the apostles called him Barnabas – "son of encouragement." He sold his property and laid the proceeds at the feet of the apostles. Barnabas went on to dedicate all of his time, talent and eventually his life for the Church. His first mission was to Antioch with St. Paul, where they were enormously successful. He is honored as the founder of the Church in Cyprus. Saturday - St. Anthony of Padua (d. 1231), Doctor of the Church. Although many seek his help in finding lost things, this gentle and persuasive preacher was far more interested in finding lost souls. St. Anthony, help me to find my gift – that "language" in which I can speak most convincingly of God's love – and use it in His service. JUNE IS DEDICATED TO THE MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS In the Sacred Heart, every treasure of wisdom and knowledge is hidden. In that Divine Heart beats God's infinite love for everyone, for each one of us individually. (St. John Paul II)
