Tomorrow is First Friday!

Join us for Mass at 12:00 noon hosted by our Grade 4 class.  After Mass students return to school for lunch in their classrooms.

There is Adoration in the Church following Mass if you wish to stay a few extra minutes, and Benediction at 2:30pm if you come a few minutes early for dismissal.

We always welcome some extra hands at lunch recess on First Friday from about 1:10-1:30pm because all of the students are out at the same time.

School pictures are first thing in the morning on on October 11 and forms are being sent home this week. Orders can be placed online or the paper forms returned with your child on picture day.  This is provided as a service and purchase of school pictures is totally optional.   However, every child will be photographed as the school uses these for school records, the class composite, and the yearbook.  Students may wear their uniforms or dress up in school appropriate clothing.  (Students out of uniform MUST wear gym shoes if they have PE class on Thursdays!)

Playground Volunteers REALLY needed!

If you can give even one day a month from 12:20 -1:00pm then this is the job for you!!  We have a dire need for Tuesday help but Mondays and Thursdays need a few more people too.  Please call the office or email Mary Clay directly at marymgclay@aol.com if you can help.

Box Tops First Quarter

Please send your General Mills' Box Tops to school before Friday, October 26th.

Here are a few guidelines:

1. Your most important contribution: Please clip the box tops on the dotted lines!

2. If you have 50 box tops, then please place them in an envelope/bag and mark the item "50."  If you have fewer - send them in anyway!

3. Expired box tops are … EXPIRED. Please discard them.

4. Betty Crocker points are not box tops; please do not send those.

LFS usually receives about $800 from General Mills each year just because YOU clipped the tiny little 10 cent coupons.

Many thanks for your loyal participation!!

HANDBOOK HIGHLIGHT

TELEPHONE USE

Personal calls between parents and students be kept to a minimum.  Only emergency messages will be forwarded to a child.  These do not include plans for after school play dates.  Student outgoing messages will also be limited to emergency messages.  Forgetting a book, a homework assignment, gym uniform or materials for an after school program will not be regarded as an emergency.

Teachers are not available for calls during the school day.  It is school policy that teachers' home phone numbers are not released to the school community. Parents are asked not to call the teacher at home.  Parents wishing to contact teachers may do so by sending a note with their child, calling the school office or contacting the teacher by e-mail.  The teacher will respond as soon as possible.

Some improvements but this bears repeating until everyone sees it.

MORNING ARRIVAL - IMPORTANT  - PARENTS PLEASE READ!!!

We are several weeks into the school year and all parents and students should now be comfortable using the car line for morning arrival.  We are seeing a number of safety issues however.

Car riders:

  • ALL students arriving by car should be dropped at the U-shaped patrol stop, exit from the passenger side only when you reach the coned area, and move immediately into the area behind those cones.
  • Cars MUST remain in a single line.   Do NOT ever drive around a stopped car unless expressly directed by an adult.
  • Do NOT park in front of the school or in the spots along the driveway to walk to the Quad.  Doing so impedes the exiting traffic.  The only people stopping in front of the building (which is technically a fire lane anyway!) are those coming into the school building.  If you do still find it necessary to walk your child to the Quad from your car, you should only enter from the Chesterbrook/Kirkwood direction, move forward to park in the designated spots near the fence line, and walk carefully into the coned area.
  • There is no entrance near the Convent in the morning.  You may notice individuals using the handicapped spots there for 8:15 Mass but that is not a designated nor a safe area for school arrival.

Walkers:

  • Parents and students should move entirely into the coned area away from traffic.  Ideally please remain there until after the car line is complete at 8:10am as walking back into traffic slows the line down even more  (Even better, if you are already here, consider volunteering to help at arrival!  We really could use more hands to keep things moving smoothly and safely.)

Your patience and cooperation are essential for our children's safety.
