Thursday, October 21, 2021 ALL SOULS - The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed On Tuesday, November 2, at the 8:15 am and 12 Noon Masses, we will remember all the souls of the faithfully departed. We will also remember in a special way all those who have died during this time of pandemic. Please use the envelopes in the pews to list the names of your deceased loved ones whom you would like to be remembered at all of the Masses during the month of November at Little Flower.
UNIVERSAL SYNOD Below is a video of Cardinal Gregory's homily at the Opening Mass of the Synod from Sunday, October 17.
PASTORAL REFLECTION Deacon Don Longano
Growing in God's Love through Faith In Sunday's Gospel passage, St. Mark the Evangelist relates the narrative of Jesus curing the blind man Bartimaeus, who earnestly cries out, "Jesus, son of David, have pity on me." Jesus responds by returning his sight, and tells him, "Go your way; your faith has saved you." (Mark 10-46-52).
FIRST THURSDAY TALK Msgr Peter J Vaghi
All are welcome to join us for Msgr. Vaghi's lecture series, entitled "The Pandemic Challenge: A Renewed Appreciation of the Eucharist," The next talk will be on Thursday, November 4 at 7:30 am in the Church and is entitled, "The Eucharist: The New and Eternal Thanksgiving."
A recording of the October talk entitled, "Sunday Mass: Why Bother?" is available HERE. To celebrate Respect Life Month, Little Flower's Respect Life Committee is organizing an online October Baby Bottle Campaign in efforts to raise funds for The Gabriel Network's Gaithersburg maternity home. The Gaithersburg maternity home offers rent-free transitional community housing for women who are pregnant and looking for a safe and nurturing place to live during and after pregnancy. During the month of October, the Church asks us to reflect more deeply on the dignity of every human life. Kindly consider contributing to Little Flower's Baby Bottle Campaign during the month of October by clicking below.
Little Flower's Youth Ministry is collecting new and gently used WINTER coats in clean and good condition for the Catholic Charities Coat Drive. ONLINE GIVING Faith Direct, our eGiving system, allows you to support our parish and our ministries even when you are unable to join us for Mass. The secure enrollment process is simple and takes less than 3 minutes to complete. Please consider enrolling in Faith Direct or increasing your level of giving. You may also make a safe and secure one-time gift online. God bless and many thanks.
STEWARDSHIP CORNER Poor Box – It is fitting that the donations in October, the month when the Supreme Court starts its annual term, will go to the Catholic Charities Legal Network, which assists the needy with their legal problems. The Red Mass is celebrated annually on the Sunday before the first Monday in October to invoke God's blessings on those responsible for the administration of justice as well as on all public officials.
Saint as Model Stewards – May the saints whom we honor this week inspire us to use our own time and unique God-given talents as He would have us do. Only two saints are listed in the Church's liturgical calendar this week. Thursday is the feast day of the apostles Simon ("the Zealot") and Jude. Why did Jesus select a political extremist and a "nobody" to be among the Twelve? He will use us too if, like Sts. Simon and Jude, we answer "Yes!" when (not if) he calls. The example of these and all the saints brings to mind the passage from Isaiah (6:8) Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I. Send me!"
Time and Talent – If you are a lawyer and would like to learn more about how you can make your pro-bono services available to the Network, please phone James D. Bishop, Esq., at (202) 772-4300.
"If you don't behave as you believe, you will end up believing as you behave." (Venerable Fulton Sheen)
