At a Glance
Little Flower is a Washington Archdiocesan Catholic School for 290 boys and girls enrolled in Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade.
History
The Little Flower community had its beginning in 1906 with its establishment as a mission of Our Lady of Victory Church. In 1948 the mission had grown sufficiently to warrant its incorporation as a separate parish with plans to build a school, church, and convent. Little Flower School opened its doors in 1953. Campus
Little Flower School is located on the 13-acre campus of Little Flower Parish in Bethesda, MD. Our facilities include a library, music room, computer lab, reading resource room, and a light-filled art room. A multipurpose Parish and School Hall serves as a lunchroom and our gymnasium serves as the center of Little Flower’s physical education program. The upper and lower playgrounds provide space for the students’ activities at recess and a turf field provides space for physical education classes, sports activities and recreational play.
Students
We have one class at each grade level. Our Pre-Kindergarten classes are limited to 18 students and the average homeroom class size throughout the rest of the school is approximately 28. For instructional purposes, most classes have a student teacher ratio of 14:1.
Academics
Little Flower School’s curriculum includes concentrated learning in religion, language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, and art, physical education, world languages (French or Spanish) and music. The language arts area includes reading, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, creative writing and penmanship.
Technology
We have a one-to-one technology program featuring Chromebooks and iPads for students in grades 1-8. Each classroom has an interactive smart board and teachers are committed to using technology to enhance best practices in teaching and learning.
Spiritual Development
Religion, the heart of the school, is integrated across the curriculum, enhances relationships with one another and directs outreach projects that serve the poor and underprivileged. Faith formation and sacramental preparation for Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation are included within the curriculum.
Student Activities
Little Flower offers a wide range of activities to help promote the unique talents of each child and to encourage socialization in a range of settings. There is a school musical production each year, Christmas and Spring concerts, a band program, choir, as well as cultural arts assemblies and field trips. A variety of interscholastic sports programs and clinics in soccer, basketball, lacrosse, baseball, softball, football and field hockey are open to all of the youth of Little Flower parish and school. Activities offered after school hours for an additional fee include special programs in art, music, dance and science.
